1/1/2012 0 Comments Who's your daddy?Shortly after buying our house, we started dog shopping. We have a small house and wanted a nice calm rescue dog. We had our eye on a sweet dog but were a little late so we kept looking. After a long day at another shelter we left again empty handed. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a photo of a dog that appeared to be a German Shorthair Pointer, the breed I grew up with. Oh, he was sweet but I was warned he was quarrantined for kennel cough and some other heath issues. We finally got to meet Chance, this malnourished crazy dog jumping up and down the walls in this room. I could not picture this dog in my house, but my husband saw something in him. So we took this clearance dog off of doggie death row, and after several vet visits we learned he has irritable bowl syndrom, is allergic to everything they test for, birth defect in his front leg and severe separation anxiety (we were his 3rd home in his short 9 month life). After a better diet, regular exercise and lots of love Mr Chance is the sweetest and smartest dog. He knows all the toys by name and will put them away in his toybox on command. He also can open doors and do several other mischevious tasks!... escaping cages being one of them! He is also the best cuddler ever. We had him meet many other dogs, he really wasn't interested. Finally, a shy girl named Jada at the Humane Society really caught his eye. It appeared to be doggie love at first sight! We brought this sweet 9 week old puppy home and renamed her Daisy but we kept wondering what type of dog this mix was. The husband and I would debate, argue, read, speculate. Then we heard about doggie DNA tests and yes we did it. Ordered the kit, put the swab in her mouth and found out she's a girl after my own heart... a German Shorthair Pointer/Cocker Spaniel mix. So she's quite the hunter like our Chance. Her favorite thing to hunt though is tennis balls, but that's another story.
